Hack: Shared Calendars
Shared calendars are amazing for coordinating and planning. My wife and I used to keep only separate calendars; we’d invite each other to events that we were both going to, and also use invites for events that we just wanted each other to know about.
Now we use shared calendars instead:
- Family calendar for events we’re both going to (e.g., church, parties, etc.)
- Date calendar for date nights
In addition, we are sharing our personal calendars with each other.
Probably I would have set this up sooner if we’d both been using Google Calendar from the get-go, but it was a little complicated by the fact that I’ve been on Fastmail Calendar instead.
It’s nice not to send the other person an invite for a thing they won’t be doing anyway, and it’s nice to be able to filter out certain calendars when needed. Color coding each calendar is also nice.
